FROM AUGUST 1ST THE TAXIES WITH YELLOW NUMBERS MAY FREELY CROSS THE ARMENIAN-GEORGIAN BORDER

From August 1st the taxies with yellow numbers may freely cross the Armenian-Georgian border. According to the source the agreement has been signed between the two states taking into consideration the suggestion of the providers of taxi services.
At present 563 licensed taxi services operate in the republic with 6792 cars and 605 individual entrepreneurs.

HILTON GARDEN INN DEBUTS IN ARMENIA
YEREVAN, ARMENIA, JULY 29 2009

Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, will soon be home to a world famous "Hilton Hotel"; one of an international chain of full-service hotels and resorts owned by the Hilton Hotels Corporation. As of 2008, there were 533 Hilton branded hotels across the world. The 534th will be constructed in Yerevan.
"Hilton Garden Inn, a three star hotel and an exhibition center will cover two hectares of land and will have 202 hotel and 40 apartment rooms. The cost of the rooms will vary between $150-200 during high season, and $120-150 during off season," said a California-based Armenian businessman Gary Bedian, the founder and president of Bedian International Company, who will be in charge of the Hilton Garden Inn construction work in Armenia.
The construction of the hotel and exhibition center will start next year and will last 3 years. The hotel will be located on the main highway to Yerevan’s Zvartnots international airport.
Attracting a prestigious global brand like Hilton Garden Inn to Armenia only adds testimony to the increasing interest in Armenia as a tourism destination. This new hotel and exhibition center will create a highly visible gateway to Armenia with international conferences, meetings, incentives and events.

"Golden Apricot" 6th International Film Festival is over and the juries have announced the names of the winners.

Feature film competition:

"Golden Apricot" main prize went to George Ovashvili for his "The Other Bank" (Georgia) Kazakhstan)

Special Prize "Silver Apricot" went to Michal Rosa for his "Scratch" (Poland)

A special prize from the head of the Jury went to Özcan Alper for his "Autumn" (Turkey / Germany)

Documentary competition:

"Golden Apricot" main prize went to Anders Østergaard for his "Burma VJ - Reporting from a Closed Country" (Denmark)

Special Prize "Silver Apricot" went to Sergey Bukovsky for his "The Living" (Ukraine).

Special Diploma was awarded to Faiza Ahmad Khan for his "Supermen of Malegaon"

Armenian Panorama competition:

"Golden Apricot" main prize went to Arka Manukyan for his film "With Love and Gratitude" (Armenia)

Levon Kalantar was awarded with a Diploma for his "Caucasian Niece" (Armenia).

FIPRESCI award:

Ecumenical Jury award:

“GOLDEN APRICOT” FILM FESTIVAL RECEIVED HOLLYWOOD FOREIGN PRESS ASSOCIATION’S HONOR AWARD

Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has granted honor award to Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival. The award was handed on July 18, by HFPA member Yoram Kahana.

HFPA takes interest in foreign films, and one of its objectives is to introduce American society to the works of foreign cinematographers.

THE "GOLDEN APRICOT" 6TH INTERNATIONAL FILM-FESTIVAL

The "Golden Apricot" 6th international film-festival kicked off July 12 in Yerevan by the "Le Premier Cercle" film of French director Laurent Tuel and its French-Armenian producer, one of the heads of Cannes film-festival Alain Terzian.
The film is a story about the Malakyans family, who live in France, where one of the chief roles of the father - Milo Malakyan plays renowned French actor Jean Reno.
Before the opening of the festival film's producer Alain Terzian told the journalists that the "Malakyan" surname was chosen in honor to renowned French-Armenian director Anry Vernoy (Ashot Maghakyan).
"Armenians preserve their identity everywhere, are faithful to their roots, traditions, visit church, speak Armenian in the family. The film presents suchlike interesting moments", - A. Terzyan said.
The filming process "Le Premier Cercle" lasted about 2 years. The duration of the film is 95 minutes and tells how the Armenian family was established in France, lived and became rich, reached a great position and turned into a clan. It represents the problems and issues of the Armenian family by means of the lives of several people", - Al. Terlzyan said.
Al. Terlzyan visited Armenia for the first time. "6 years ago there was an intention of visiting Armenia with the French President, but I didn't manage because of some reasons. My Mother always said that it is necessary to see Armenia, to visit it frequently. Today I realized my mother's, as well as my wish and I am very glad that the film festival gave me the opportunity of coming to Yerevan", - he noted. The film figure expressed hope that he will have many reasons for visiting Armenia hereafter.
Al. Terzyan is the chairman of "Alter Films" Production Company and "Cesar" Academy, chairs the Association of French Producers. Great actors like Allen Delon, Annie Girardot, Catrin Dnjov, Gerard Depardieu, Juliette Binoche, Sofie Marso and others have been shot in his films.

LAURA HAYRAPETYAN TO PERFORM "BARCELONA" AT EUROVISION JUNIOR 2009

Laura Hayrapetyan is selected to present Armenia in "Eurovision Junior 2009" international song contest performing "Barcelona" song.

Laura Hayrapetyan has collected the majority of voices given to her by jury and sms voting on 11 July. 6 other singers were competing with Laura to participate in the song contest.

Note that "Eurovision Junior 2009" will be held in Kiev, on 21 November. The participant countries are Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Belgium, Cyprus, Malta, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Netherlands, Sweden, Ukraine.

ARMENIA ESTABLISHES AIR LINK WITH ITALY
Armenia’s national air carrier, Armavia Air Company, will commence a new direct flight between Yerevan and Rome from July 15th, 2009.

Scheduled daytime flights will be undertaken weekly on a Wednesday with duration of approximately 4 hours. Round trip tickets from Yerevan are anticipated to cost around US$ 570. The Armenian Tourism Development Agency, with the support of its Italian representative, Nadia Pasqual, has made great strides in promoting Armenia to the Italian market. So much so, Italian arrivals to Armenian Hotels increased from 2007 to 2008 by 55% compared to 18% for arrivals overall.

EUROPEAN JOURNALISTS GIVE ARMENIA THE THUMBS UP
A group of nine prominent European journalists undertaking a 5-day trip to Armenia recently, as part of a UNWTO-supported familiarization trip, gave the country a big thumbs up.

“People from the US and Europe are looking for something exotic and Armenia represents that. It’s incredible!” quoted UK freelancer, Nick Easen, during a workshop with Armenian tourism industry representatives.

The journalists, from Italy, Spain and the UK, were introduced to a combination of Armenia’s unique hospitality and the outstanding cultural and natural heritage during the intensive tour throughout the country.

"Armenia is one of those places that touches the heart. I’ve had 3 or 4 ‘Golden Moments’ during my short stay here", said UK freelancer, John Bell, during a talk-show program on Armenia TV, where the journalists were invited to share their impressions and make recommendations on improving Armenia’s image.

The Armenian Tourism Development Agency hosts a number of group and individual familiarization trips each year focusing particularly on their target markets of Italy, France, the UK, Russia and USA.

YEREVAN-BATUMI TRAIN TO START ON JULY 15

South Caucasus Railway (SCR) CJSC will open the season of Yerevan-Batumi train on July 15.
The passanger tariffs will not grow: a night-coach ticket will cost 10.600 AMD and a compartment ticket will coast 21.500 AMD. The train will leave on odd days of the month and will arrive at the destination point in 18 hours. The time was reduced by 40 minute due to the work carried out in June. In addition, SCR is going to provide a VIP-carriage for 7 people. The leasing tariff will total 500,000 AMD. The VIP-carriage will consist of a restaurant, bar and night-coaches.
